Pukhrambam Roshini Devi

JNV Bishnupur Manipur
I'd like to become a Dakshana Scholar and hopefully attend Medical College

Q1. Introduce your Family to us ?
I do not live with either of my parents. I live with my aunty, Pukhrambam Medha Devi (my father’s elder sister), her husband Oinam Lukhoi Singh, their three sons (O. Amujao, O. Benerjit, and O. Jotin), and my younger sister, P. Ronika Devi. My mother passed away when I was in class 4. That same year, my father remarried and left us with my grandmother. After two years, my grandmother passed away due to bone cancer. Since then, my aunty and uncle have raised us as their own children. My aunty does not allow me to put “late” before my mother’s name because she says people will pity us as orphans. My uncle is a farmer with a small piece of land, and my aunty is a housewife.

Q2. Why should you be awarded the Dakshana Scholarship?
I belong to a poor family and cannot afford world-class coaching fees. I am a talented student and want to create a big impact in society. If not selected, I would improve myself and try again to become successful.

Q3. What is your ambition in life?
I want to become a successful doctor to fulfil the dreams of my uncle and aunty and to make them smile for the rest of their lives. I want to help elderly people and children who have no one.

Q4. How would you like to contribute to the society and the world when you become a successful?
When I become successful, I will support children who want to study but have no one to support them. I will provide them economic, mental, and physical support, and treat them like my family. I will also take care of old citizens who have no family.

Q5. Describe an incident in your life that has motivated/inspired you to do better
After my father left us, we suffered a lot of economic and mental problems. My grandmother, aunty, and uncle supported us, even though they belong to a poor family. It was hard for them to pay our school fees. They never said it, but I knew. So I tried my best to get selected in the JNV entrance test. Even now, I will try my best to make them smile. They are my inspiration and motivation.

Q6. Tell us about your interests and hobbies?
I am interested in reading, listening to stories, painting, and crocheting. I also have a keen interest in creating new clothing designs.
